RotGod - Sybaritic Metal ( EP 2021)

It doesn't matter what style of music you're talking about, nothing beats a raw thrash metal tune. RotGod from Italy are pretty damn fast. They play a style of traditional thrash/speed metal very much their own. Stylistically, these maniacs have similarities to bands like Exciter, early Anthrax, Hallow's Eve, a bit of Nasty Savage, Whiplash etc... Cross this traditional sound with the speed of hardcore punk and you come close to RotGod. This EP is easily intense enough to get almost any thrasher's blood flowing, each song is  memorable to the point where the tunes will get stuck in your head and the cover of Destruction is sick as hell. So I'll simply end this review with this note: if you want relentless speed/thrash with an aggressive rough vocals, with crazy razor sharp fast guitars, and don't mind simplicity, get RotGod immediately. Also do yourself a favor and check out the bands other releases. Keep in mind that this is much more unique and full of its own quirks (oh yeah, and it’s faster too).

The bands are: False Prophet, Schizophrenia, Amboog-A-Lard, Solstice, Yellowtooth, Divine Treachery, Methane and Luna In Sanguinem . This is absolutely a treasure for the metalheads. The entire album is flawless. if you ever get the opportunity to buy a copy, than by all means seize the moment and take this brutal trip through The Record of Armageddon. Enjoy the brutality!!

Unburial - Bellum Internecinum (2021)

As Someone once said; “Ain’t nothing like the real thing.” An absolutely stellar mixing and mastering on this album. Songs like “Ferrum ignitum” “Condemned to oblivion” and “Invictus” are full of heaviness and oppressive atmosphere, but each instrument is easily discernible, making the whole thing that much more crushing. Atmosphere, heaviness; these two things are integral to Unburial's sound, this album is impressive. Songs here run from slow-burning, chest-caving death doom to face-rippers, making for a much more varied listen than what one might expect from a Black/Death metal band. All of this said, there are still some lingering hints of old school death metal buried underneath the massive pile of putrid flesh and bone that is this album's sound. The guitars bursts are classic examples of the chaotic and frenzied  shredders.  Aside from the riffing, the inventiveness and brutality of the drumming and the befittingly thick production, what makes “Bellum Internecinum ” so utterly brilliant is its aura of unholiness and profound irreverence, as combined masterfully with memorability and spirit that even few outright riff-fetishist death metal bands can rival but it supplements it with unrivaled brilliance of horrific, depraved atmosphere. Unburial relies more on atmosphere and impact, it's something that every old school death metal enthusiast should be familiar with, and something that might carry appeal to a younger crowd that craves the rabid minimalism of brutal acts populating in the current scene.

Force of Destruction - The Destructive Evil (2020)

For those not on the know, this is complicated brand of death metal, that relies on a unique mixing of riffs and squealing guitars, drum patterns galore and the comfortably despondent growls. This transmits pure ANGER. These tracks will pound the listener with hateful riffing and full drumming. Force of Destruction release an interesting album here.  Each track starts off at a point and gradually drifts to a different mood with time changes, atmospheric changes, and varying speeds/intensities. Stylistically, this is still the same percussive-centered, soaring lead, blasting brutal style of death metal, but done in an intelligent manner. Each song spends time developing multiple well-thought out riffs while drums constantly rain down fills. Vocals emphasize short, powerful spurts that have an edge, while still maintaining trademark anti-religious lyrics. Production is very good for this type of album. The low, sometimes distant sound gives a very destructive, and evil atmosphere. Speeds are constantly varied and demand listener's attention. Moments can range from slow, sludgy riffs to pounding snare and solo combinations. Very technical from all aspects, but technicality that does, it serves a purpose.

Kraken - Tales Of Terror (2021)

This is their first full lenght that Kraken from Peru released. And fuck, did they manage to do a good job of it or what? - the riffs are as good, if not better than their previous EP, especially on the first song, "Diablo". That song is a perfect example of massively riff-oriented thrash: insane riffs and brutal tempo changes. It feels like you're crushing posers. The searing guitar tone is raw as fuck but at the same time, avoids sounding like a chaotic wall of sound where you're barely able to differentiate between the notes.. No worries of that happening here. In terms of sheer riff-craft and songwriting, this album arguably manages to surpass some current thrash bands, but in terms of sheer viciousness and obliterating intensity, this album sends most of them right to the bottom of the totem pole. Okay maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration, but surely you get the drift. The final verdict? THRASH TILL DEATH!! Recommended, Go and get it !!

Necropsya - Inhuman Pestilence (2021)

Everything in this album is punishing! You know the kind of metal that tells you fucking do what I say! OBEY ME! That is what this release is about. Okay let’s start with the production, Necropsya released great albums before this, just with different production, well not bad after all, just bad when compared to this production. The whole sound is just clear here, yet aggressive, sharp and tight. The previous albums probably had a “nastier and Raw” production, but this is the sound of pure Peruvian hostility, the sound that i like. The drumming by Nicolás Cárdenas is just very vigorous, and precise, and sounds volatile with the riffs being played. Actually, the drums drew my attention. The vocals are to the death side of metal, and they’re punishing ; the favourite vocal style in thrash metal, to be honest. They are belligerent, retaining the speed of thrash metal vocals, yet adding a whole lot of brutality and pain in their delivery… and the solos, they have this character that identifies them yet they never take over; the solos are just another aspect of the album that complements it and the fucking tremolos are insane, and the ultimate highlight are the fucking riffs. Here’s quality and quantity, and with that sick, heavy, thrashy guitar tone it has, the riffs only sound more intriguing. These riffs will haunt your dreams, they just dominate. You want the riffs to be catchy? or headbanging ? or aggressive ? or what ? This is a real perfect combination of all. One also gets his share of spine-chills too, listen to that break when the solo of Venom kicks in, just amazing. Necropsya didn’t really change in this album concerning their approach to brutal thrash, just put out an even more perfected album.; different production, “clearer” and more violent, and some more awesome drumming without forgetting the riffs; all that in one punishing thrash metal album.  Own this now!

Age Of Agony - For The Forgotten

Vocals are a good example of powerful growl in every track. There isn’t much variety, but to be honest you don’t really need it in an album like this. I mean, variety is always a good thing and it would be appreciated, but it’s not the first thing to think about when you listen to death metal vocals. It’s an angry growl which fits the songs’ lyrical themes very well, that’s enough. Words are barely intelligible but this is how growl works. Guitars are probably the best part of the whole album. Riffs are complex, somehow catchy and well structured (not only riffs actually; the whole composition has an admirable structure), and solos are exquisitely technical. Drums are fast in some tracks, slower in other ones, proving a good variety in composition and playing. Their pace can skip from moderate to frantic and that’s an added value. Every song is savage. You can listen to this album many times in just a few days and you won’t get tired of it, not because it’s light but because it’s interesting. It’s heavy, powerful and angry, and you still can enjoy it without putting it aside after listening to it twice. That’s what makes an album great, and that’s why “For The Forgotten” is a must-have that should be in everyone’s collection.

Invultation - Unconquerable Death (2021)

What an album of pure and unadulterated chaos! This album is a brutal assault. Aggressive, torturous style that this band displays. Every song is memorable, and creates and undoubtedly diabolical and blasphemous atmosphere. If Satan is a member of this band, i wouldn't be surprised. Everyone on the album is playing with the energy of a pissed off demon. Here you definitely get a raw production, but it's digestible. The drums sound awesome in my opinion, definitely raw, and pretty high in the mix, and not all that well produced, but all things considered, it's what you expect from this. It's thrashy, suitable for death metal and black metal also. To conclude my thoughts on this cacophony of pure, blasphemous, evil, this album is essential listening. If you like evil metal that combines black, thrash, and death, then Invultation is for you my friend. Give it a listen ASAP.

Throat Cutter - Speed Demon from Hell

Okay, so I figured it was time to finally give a listen to this cassette and i go through cycles of addiction to this band due to the heavy dissonant riffs and beefy drums and demented vocals, this is pure madness. The riffs are crazy here. They have a punk attitude to them, when you listen to Throat Cutter you'll understand what I'm talking about. Just put it on already and stare off into the badass band that would destroy your ears with savage metal.m This release is a fantastic insight into how much old school Thrash Metal bands has influenced the new generation. This deserve to be listened to as a celebration of the underground scene. This music perfectly captures the frenzied energy of the golden era. This frenzied music brings back the sound of my youthful rebellion. My advice? Give this a listen for yourself, then formulate your own opinion. This is what metal is all about damn it !!

Mephisto - Pentafixion (2021)

Mephisto from Cuba. There is so many influences in this band's music that you cannot pin-point it more than simply extreme metal. This album Makes you feel as if you're trapped in a dark chamber in some medieval castle. It has some synthesized choirs, to which the drums and guitars play a bit. The vocal screech, the drums play some great headbangable beats! And to make it even more interesting, some melodic solos. Afterwards, the album is good.  When the tremolo picked guitars come in, along with the cool  drumming. vocals come in and growls a bit, and then the chaos start. It's like watching a horror movie with brutal orchestral  music in it. This album is pure epicness and has no words to be described. All in all, this was an amazing listen. If I were to recommend it to someone, I would recommend it to symphonic black metal fans. I feel like I've rambled on enough, yet I also feel like I've barely scratched the surface as to why I like this album. Oh well. Hope this was useful to someone and maybe even turned a few people on to an style that they may have previously overlooked. Good job !

Mara - Djavulstoner

Melodic death metal force by all?. First of all, production wise it sounds absolutely well done. Every instrument sounds full and crisp, whilst maintaining an organic warmth to them and not bending to the temptation of modern overly polished production. The vocals feels intense and lively, and spirited; alternating between the more shrieky cries (those can be a bit exaggerated) and the lower husky tones, with even double vocals in places; and there's more dynamism to the vocals on here to go along with the detailed sound of the album. Every single song on this album is catchy (however flawed and even tainted for a few) and immediately recognizable within the first seconds and the lead guitars are often used as main musical phrases. The album does contain a substantial amount of genuinely pleasant and at times even majestic melody. As far as I can tell, this is efficient. Even if you're someone who typically writes off melodeath as cheesy, "Djavulstoner" might still be something you can love. If anything, it's more of an extreme heavy metal album, so give it a shot.

Bloody Corpse Dismemberment

Punk/ death grind from northern Arizona. The trick with grindcore is to submerge yourself into the music. If you successfully manage to do so, you'll be fine. I like to listen to grindcore if I’m in a very specific mood Basically. This Cd consisting of 33 tracks, each song will crush you as the album flies by at lightning speed. Everything is right to the point; each song blasts away a few different riffs, with the vocals sounding just as angry and blunt as everything else here. You’ll have already heard the d-beat punk influence in their songs, as well as the band’s tasteful use of breakdowns. Not chugga-chugga breakdowns, but ones that really act as a powerful counterpoint and build up. The production is certainly heavy and raw as hell here. Considering the band tunes, the guitar riffs are nasty but easy to catch, all the instruments sound fkn raw here. vocals are certainly effective. This album definitely is not for everyone which is good, not all metalheads like grindcore to be honest. But this is a cool Cd for my sick taste in extreme music.

Psychic Pawn - Eulogy " The Complete Anthology" (2021)

Thrashback Records continue releasing underrated classics. Then I finally heard Psychic Pawn. Holy shit, what exactly happened to this band? This is a fantastic CD in pretty much every aspect. Considering this came out in 1994, This reissue features the recordings from 1991-'92' and 94'. This is fantastic, pure, full-on death metal. Sure, there is still some traces of thrash here.  Blasting speed, brutal slowdowns, and deranged solos that would define much of early-90’s death metal. But what really stands out about this release is how fundamentally catchy and well-written these tunes are.  This is pure old-school death metal at its absolute finest. The Demos 91'-'92 are more primitive (though still pretty damn technical) definitely works in the band’s favor. Drumming is insane and suit’s the riffs perfectly, and vocals are way catchier and more effective. Guitar and bass work are top-notch of course, and the production on this release is surprisingly good. Thanks Eric and Thrashback Records for bringing back all this kick ass gems. Psychic Pawn is a brilliant death metal band and this Cd is amazing. Its well played, well produced, brutal and catchy as fuck. And in old-school death metal, what else do you really need? A classic.

Nemesis - The War Is On (2020)

Nemesis is a Female band from Serbia. This record is filled with simple and catchy riffs, interesting strucures and some very cool lead playing. This album doesn't show off full on wankery, more like tasteful and skillfull playing. Here you will find intensity and authenticity, at least that appeals to me. The main riffs and leads are great and the rythm is pummeling and worthy of the horns. All tracks feature ferocious riffing mixed with a catchy as hell chorus that inspires my head to bang. The vocals are outstanding and fit the band's sound on this release. "The War Is On" certainly gets the job done. The drumming kicks ass. Several times the drums are given the main stage. As far as solos are concerned, I have no complaints. They don't go cheap on them. The riffs are pummeling throughout almost the entire album, not too fast, but heavy enough. At overall look, the album is pretty good!!

Paganfire - Wreaking Fear and Death

This a raw thrash metal explosion that will simply destroy you. It's relentlessly unstoppable, utterly dirty, and completely endless. This is Paganfire from The Philippines. This was recorded in 2011-2012. Every Metalhead should know about this insanity of an album. It's pure thrash, never giving you room for a short breath in sight. You could say this is pretty comparable to what Whiplash did with "Power and Pain", the entire point of this album is just to simply kick your ass repeatedly song after song. Paganfire easily accomplishes this challenge if you're craving for a dose of nonstop thrash metal. The songs are generally quite short and they point directly to the core of extremism. There’s no melody or will to slow down. The band itself has inside an insane load of anger and madness. The power of the rhythmic guitars is unbelievable and during the palm muting riffage, it’s like being overwhelmed by truck at full speed. True old school thrashers, beware the impact of Paganfire!

Order of Doom - Barbaric Goat Temple (2021)

The guitars here sound brutal and very fast. The riffage, like in “Communion of Impurity"” remained a bit black oriented but, with a cleaner sounds it’s less “ancient”. The vocals are on the borderline between thrash/death & black, so suffered. The most brutal things here, are the hyper violent blast beats where the band really destroys everything. Order of Doom is about as insane of a thrash-oriented album as can be found in the late 80s, and even upstages Sarcofago's early offerings in terms of overall intensity. If early Bathory are on the radar too, this band definitely can be found at their border. They won't finish to brutalize your ears!!

Yellowtooth - The Burning Illusion (2021)

This is kind of sludge metal or whatever you want to call it, at its finest hour. I am not a fan of this style, i tried to listen to a few bands in the past but they were boring for my ears. In other hand this record is a whole lot of fun to listen and is one I got very addicted to for a while. Did they reinvent the wheel? well, i am not the right guy to say it,  But everything on this just melts together so well. These dudes were having fun when they recorded this and it shows. There are too many catchy and awesome riffs to count on this record. The leads are also fun and bluesy, but you have to give it to the rythm section for just holding it down and being in the pocket here. Most of these riffs are really good and makes this release so addictive. The vocals are intense, giving the feeling that this guy's really digging it. The guitar tone in particular has a nice ring to it. Some standout tracks are "Atrocity", "Deep Space", "The Illusion", once again some awesome riffing. This album is a heavyweight, a cool band that just keeps on bringing it.

Narkan - Infestacion (2020)

Ok. Here's how it is. Fast, fast, fast! Catchy, brutal leads, the solos are to the point, the bass is good , savage vocals, and average drumming. "F.O.B.", Sealed in a Coffin", Fuck'em All" and "Bastardo Animal" are really good the average drummer shows all the way through his potential, providing great blasting, cool double bass timing. The leads would get repetitive at some points, but the drums and vocals, cover that. Straight up, made for headbanging. As I said, it would get repetitive, except for the fact that the rest is always changing and thus seems alot different. What's in the Peruvian waters I admit, I don't have a whole lot of music from Peru lately and the rest of the bands in my collection are from the late 80's early 90's. Whatever the case, I'm damn glad i got this Cd in the mail. This is one cool death/thrash metal album, bar none, they come crashing out of your speakers and plow through your house growling, riffing, and blasting on a suicidal last stand of destruction. Intense. The riffing is great! They typically whip up whirlwinds of violent yet melodic tremolo in addition to the requisite palm muting and crushing style. You might want to strap yourself down before hitting the play button. Don't forget to brace for impact when the 1st Company of Badass Peruvian Mutants comes tearing out. If you cranked this shit on a loud stereo your neighbors would probably kill you if the marauding sound waves didn't grind them into pudding first. Also the Cd features a hidden cover track "Dead Shall Rise" of the legendary Terrorizer. Nevertheless, much worth the purchase!!

Unburied - Hammer Of Redemption (2021)

This is an interesting release for the most part, all I know is that it sounds like a live demo that was recorded in a garage. The guitars sound pretty slow at first, but then it picks up though it sounds a bit sketchy. This is a demo to listen carefully. If you want to know what Unburied is all about, just get the early stuff first and work your way up to this demo "Hammer Of Redemption".

SexMag - Sex Metal Promo Cassette (2021)

I got this promo tape from Poland. It feels like this tape was sent from the early 80's or early 90's. SexMag is a very simple, yet effective style of black/death metal. A raw production and mix, with "primitive" songs, similar to early Bathory and Venom, some riffs in the vein ot the old Whiplash musicwise. There are some mixed influences, but you can hear that these guys are really into their music and they work hard to get it out. There are no highlights or stand out elements here, just a very good old school metal with some ultra evil lyrics. The lyrics are a mixture of Hate, Disgust and Satanism (whether it's real or not) but one thing is for sure: There's pure energy in these lyrics and a HUGE amount of rejection for a lot of shitty things of this world, which sounds positive to my ears. You want to know what I like most about this promo tape? the 80's sound. It comes down to musicians playing good metal with lots of attitude. To culminate this reviews, I definately recommend this band. For the lovers of old school Death, Thrash or Black Metal, this release is imperative to devour. The violent and euphoric moments that you will have with SexMag, will be endless.

Mudlung - Immaculate Infection (2021)

As I listen to this cassette, my room reeks of decay and putrefaction, mangled, dismembered body parts hang in random places around the room, decorating it in a morbidly ornamental fashion. And in the middle of it all, I sit there, at my desk, with my hands writing this review. That's what listening to this cassette is like. The gorific landscape it creates is mesmerizing. Don't dismiss this band. Give it a listen. Mudlung incorporates the obvious aspects of death metal and grind. The sound is heavy, almost sounding like a sped-up doom metal band, at times. They remind me, refreshingly, of Impetigo at times. While their  sound is not as insane as the legendary Impetigo, they stay true to the brutality and heaviness of this style and don't stray away from the gore and gut-wrenching imagery of their lyrics. I can safely say that Mudlong is truly one of the new leaders in the forefront of the grind genre for now. Their style is defining and not cloned. This is a release definitely worth checking out. Also, the presentation of the cassette is fkn awesome !!

Vulture - Dealin' Death (2021)

Bursting out of Germany comes Vulture, one of those bands that teeters the lines of thrash and speed metal that took form a long time ago. Their latest album Dealin' Death dropped a few days ago, and has since ended up being a total grower of a record. I say that because it starts out sounding like the typical raw old school speed metal which i like a lot. The speedier tracks aren’t bad by any stretch. Although the album bounces back and forth between these songs and the more intriguing crawlers, this style is let on little by little as the disc progresses. "Malicious Souls", “Flee the Phantom” are the fastest, kick ass tunes, showcasing their speed side the greatest heights. Others like "Below the Mausoleum" are solid enough. The vocals are a chaotic boost with tailing screeches. I can safely say that Vulture have perfected the art of balancing the throwback tactics with originality. I didn’t expect much more than solid-enough speed metal that does its job, but I found myself returning to it over and over, and can confidently say that it’s the perfect grower. Essential listen, especially if speed/thrash are your forte.

GOG - Self Titled Release (2021)

This heavy bass driven death metal is a notable act. Speed and slowness in a brutal way is what do you get. GOG's production is actually loud and audible. The pace on this cd interchanges quite frequently. Ranging from fast drumming to mid pace sections and to spice it up they throw in some crunching doom riffs. Vocals are extreme raw. Basically it is like a slow moving tank. How it arrives and you hear it coming. The sound being the loudest when passing but also faded when leaving. The best thing about this album is it is actually headbangable! Unlike other acts.  GOG proves this "noise" can be put into very productive ways. By creating a single deep heavy sound with variety thrown into a melting pot. And what comes out is brutal death metal with a hint of doom in this 2021 release that shall be the marching drums to your death!

Nekromantheon - Visions Of Trismegistos (2021)

"The Visions Of Trismegistos" is a pure massive dose of brutal adrenaline, this will make you sweat like a horse just listening the godly drumming--in fact, drummer owns this entire album. His pounding drumming will make you break your neck banging away in time with it. "Seven Rulers of Fate" has the most crazed and lunatic soloing on the record, chaotic leads in the old slayer vein, and that's fkn wonderful, dirty, and evil as it slices your speakers to shreds. These 8 tracks will drag you through the fiery depths of hell, I highly recommend this to fans of Venom, Slayer, Dark Angel, and Exumer. Monstrous tracks with its epic guitar solos. The production, for the most part, is very fitting to this album. It's dirty, unpolished and gritty. Perfect ingredients to throw into a brutal and extreme album. The mix is fine. It showcase loud guitars and drums, which is great for this kind of album. All in all, "The Visions Of Trismegistos" is an album that is oozing with filthy, vile brutal anthems  The uncompromising speed, song structure and the sinister sound give Nekromantheon an identity to call their own. A brutal album that every extreme metal fan needs to own. Fantastic !!

Cannibal Corpse - Violence Unimagined (2021)

Cannibal Corpse’s latest  album "Violence Unimagined" and where do i begin? Well, for me, an old school maniac, Cannibal Corpse are back, kicking off with the brutality of "Murderous Rampage", it may not be 'Eaten Back To Life' with an insane riffage, but it is a fantastic way to kick off'. The first track announces that Cannibal Corpse have returned, Corpsegrinder’s voice is on point and never mind the foot tapping that goes along with it, before too long you’ll notice that the head starts to bang too! George has a distinct voice, that brutal growl which make  instantly CC recognisable. It clocks in at around 43 minutes making it short, sweet and difficult to lose your attention; all the hallmarks of a kick ass album. The ever present Erik Rutan/Rob Barret’ guitar claws through the mix, chugging away like a chainsaw swallowing down its gasoline, helped along with the stuttering blast beats of Paul which make tracks such as 'Inhumane Harvest', the superb 'Condemnation Contagion' and 'Surround, Kill, Devour ' Cannibal Corpse haven’t sounded this good in years. When you think about it, Cannibal Corpse have possibly recorded one of the best albums of 2021 and certainly it is their best work since 'Vile' in my opinion.  CC are back and doing what they do best. This is pure savage METAL, Period. Highly recommended for old school metal fans, and thrashers as well !!

Producer done excellent job. Guitars' sound very good, heavy enough, but not to escess. Drums fit perfectly. Sound of bass,is excellent - nothing irritates here. Alex Marquez really knows how to drum, and he is also very creative. Just see how many drum bridges are on this album! Aggressive as hell. I recommend this album to every death/thrash metal fan. 1917 - Omnicrisis (2021)

1917 from Argentina have been around a very long time and over the span of more than twenty five years have seen their reputation rise as many time as they've endured line-up changes. I remember discovering this band back in 1997 and after so many years of losing contact with Alejandro, Thanks to the internet this new album arrived in my hands. "Omnicrisis" is an album with something to prove. Few bands this deep into a discography are able to bring much passion and energy to their music but that's exactly what 1917 does. "Omnicrisis" crackles with energetic life: choppy, staccato chords and blurred tremolo riffs coupled to heaving, chunky basslines and tremendously powerful drumming - all slathered in a brutal atmosphere for horror and oppression. The band strides the Death/Black demarcation perfectly, crafting superb slowdowns of despair. And they've added a few new wrinkles to the mix too. It's an incredible experience, especially on headphones. Alejandro Sabransky delivers a fully demonic performance perfectly attuned to the band's occult lyrics. He is also in fine guitar fettle with brilliant riffs and flashes of genius in the few solos he delivers. In a genre rife with stagnation and imitation, it is refreshing to hear another SouthAmerican veteran band answer the challenge of their younger peers and then casually brush them aside with an album so masterly that it is somewhat hard to fathom. Overall, this is a perfect Extreme metal album. There are no flaws and everything about it is perfect from the guitar tone, to the fitting solos, to the drumming, and the bass playing. It all fits together perfectly like an elaborate puzzle. 1917 continue to progress and inspire and "Omnicrisis" is a true highlight of their discography. They have managed to pull off the difficult task of staying true to their roots while at the same time updating and tweaking their sound !!

Dark Zodiak - Ophiuchus (2021)

Dark Zodiak's "Ophiuchus" certainly gets the job done. At some points it suffers from too many quiet or soft parts, but the overall makes up for it. Passionately crushing solos, the melodies are mostly heavy and straight to the point. The production leaves the instruments somewhat clean, sheer and powerful. The drumming kicks ass when are given the main stage. The instrumental bits  are  headbangable as most of the album, they are fine pieces of music. As far as solos are concerned, I have no complaints. They deliver the goods in the style only Dark Zodiak has. They don't go cheap on them, yet don't go wild with ultra-fast virtuoso solos which show talent and feel and the riffs are pummeling throughout almost the entire album, not too fast, but heavy enough. My personal favorites: Invisible Apocalypse , Destroy Destruction and Total Freedom. At overall look, the album is pretty good, highly recommended!!

Troops Of Doom - The Rise Of Heresy (2020)

Well, what can I say about this Southamerican masterpiece? This band execute pure savageThrash Metal, well done and lacking downsides. The guitar work is insane. The solos are tremendous. This is the true essence of underground metal. A lot of metal fans will remember this in years to come. Naturally, you hear the very early Sepultura vibes and influence since the legendary Jairo is on this brutal line up. The sound is Dirty, gritty, and true to the Brazilian sound. We all know that traditional Swedish sound and American sound, well, bands from Brazil also have that trademark guitar sound that you will find on such releases as Sepultura “Bestial Devastation” and Sarcofago “Rotting. This is massive and old school as its best. It is a godly monstrosity that speaks for itself. This release deserves to be owned by every metal fan in the world. Yeah it's mandatory!!

Gutted - Bleed For Us To Live (2019)

The guitar work here is killer. Flowing riffs and out-of-control solos, although in keeping with the atmosphere of the album. Vocals are a raspy, articulate roar and adds to the thick heaviness of the album. Highlights are incredibly difficult to pick, as Gutted do not fall into the fault of so many death metal bands in making all their songs sound overly similar. Every song here is given its own identity and voice. "Bleed for us to Live"  is a testament to creativity and brutality. A good album with no set backs!!

Misanthropy Apotheosis - Against Your Filthy Kind (2020)

Some muddy production and tons of Christ hating blasphemy. As a collective, Misanthropy Apotheosis work to blend instruments. It works well within the brutal Death Metal that these guys spawn. The band also plays with tempo. All tracks have sections where the band slows it down, and the transitions are good. Vocalist convey emotion to the listener as he screams, but he stamp his voice into your mind. To death metal fan: stop reading and go get this !!

Create a Kill - Summoned to Rise (2018)

Gus Rios (Gruesome/Malevolent Creation) Guitars/Bass/Drums, Alex Marquez (Solstice/Resurrection) Vocals/Drums,  Dirk Verbueren (Megadeth/Soilwork) Drums, Tobias Gustafsson (Cut Up/Vomitory) Drums, Matt Harvey (Exhumed) Vocals, and Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed) Guitars. What else can i say about this powerful record?

The intensity on this record is absolute, they didn't lack any of the catchiness or violent energy to be at the top of the Metal scene;  This band can be on the death metal bandwagon and at the same time the're the most savage thrash ever. Listening to these 10 tracks will almost guarantee a headbanging marathon. From the insane opener "Create a Kill" to the closing monster "Show of Force" there will be several moments throughout that will make you want to awaken your inner neanderthal and fuck everything in sight up. The ferocious thrash riffage is beyond fast with heavy, crushing passages for maximum chaos to ensue. In addition to being speed freaks, the band also provides plenty of music that simply destroys. Every song has plenty of back and forth solos, and they add just a little more awesome to each track. The vocals on this album are also done very competently as well with extreme hatred and passion throughout the entire album. Now onto the drums. This is the one instrument that does in fact stand out, played with savagery and ferocity throughout the entire album. Extremely technical but these guys can slam on the drums so fast that it sounds like a machine gun chopping next to your ear. Again this is nothing more than brutal and brutish death/thrash metal at its best. If you’re looking for something fancy look else where, but if you’re looking to break your neck doing some serious headbanging then this is right up you’re alley!

Compendium of Metal Vol. 13 - Compilation CD (2020)

I sit here with beer in hand listening to this compilation, writing a review for Soulgrinder Zine. I know i am not the only 45 year old metalhead lunatic that gets drunk, and plays underground CD's from all over the world. All bands are pretty good here, Heavy, Thrash, Doom, Black/Thrash. This is the new volume of this great compilation series, features a fairly even mix of European bands. This volume leans heavily on thrash and heavy Metal bands, alongside a few Doom outfits too. The bands on this 14 song disc are Ignitor, Chainbreaker, Hellspike, Legionem, Vomit Division, Albert Bell's Sacro Sanctus, Midnight Priest, Sacral Night, In Aevum Agere, Risen Prophecy, Kommand, Space God Ritual, Eternal Thirst and Toxikull. This is a killer comp with quality bands and packaging including a booklet with all the bands. Overall, if you are looking to see what real metal sound like, pick this CD up ASAP. Long Live Metal On Metal Records !!

Legionem - Sator Omnia Noctem (2020)

For people into metal, it’s normal for certain bands to pop into your head when you hear the “Doom Metal.” The first band is usually Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Saint Vitus, and for the sake of this review, I hope Legionem jumps into your head as well. For those (unfortunate) few not familiar with this Italians, they are a band characterized by their thick sludgy epic sound. I think this kind of music founded their very own genre within a genre. This full length release, titled "Sator Omnia Noctem" is a stronghold within the doom community. This is still a very strong album. All of the elements that fans of doom have come to expect  are of course present in this release. You have the slow crawling to mid-paced tempo, the sweeping arcs of melody laden riffs arranged beautifully to create a very epic appeal to the presentation of the album and a man with a powerful voice and emotions across. Even though this album is pure doom, it excels in variety. Not only do they play in slow motion, most songs are peppered with brutal riffs, keeping the listener’s attention, which is fine. Not that they need to do that here. If the music isn’t enough to keep your attention, Legionem definitely capture the imagination and ears of those listening. All in all, this is definitely a good dose of doom. If you’re into this style at all, you’ll be into this album.

Vomit Division - Hell in a Bottle (2020)

This is an album that remains on heavy rotation in my stereo and it's among my favorite albums of 2020. I was skeptical when i looked at the cover, but holy hell, this album is catchier, aggressive, speeding, black/thrash metal.  "Hell in a Bottle" offers eight tracks of energetic, black/thrash with a dash of punkened simplicity, while the rhyhtm section thunders along merging from D-beat mayhem to rollicking rhythms. It provides some pretty cool fills, yet it mostly seems to stick to the basics, which fits the album's style quite well. The riffs are insane, the barked growls, which, like the album title suggests, offer tales of hell in a bottle. It would seem that Vomit Division is on fire at this point. This one is the filthiest and downright catchiest album of 2020 in my opinion!

Chainbreaker - Relentless Night (2020)

This album is a metalheads dream, loud pounding drums, brutal bass lines, riffs and solos with screeching vocals. It's simple - Chainbreaker just know how to thrash and they get right to the point. No bullshit interludes, no ballads, no intros or outros, no flirting with other genres, nothing. They simply went into the studio and punched out a short, sweet, and to the point album of ballsy, gritty, thrashing insanity without even looking back to make sure they were doing everything perfectly. If you're a fan of metal as I am, then you should be able to easily understand this sort of concept. Standout tracks? The whole album is great as it more or less all sounds the same, being thoroughly consistent all the way through. It will get you headbanging straight away, exactly like any metal album should do. This is the essence of metal, and I can't see why someone who likes thrash metal or heavy metal in general in the slightest would object to this band. The 80s may have been great for metal, but let's not pretend there isn't a ton of high-quality metal around today. Chainbreaker is dirty, thrashy and in-your-face, it's also pretty brilliant!

HellSpike - Lords of War (2020)

I have found HellSpike to be a band that is indeed incendiary among their genre. Perhaps one of the most fiery of all Speed metal these days, they have produced a sound that while being melodic and obscure, as Speed metal is, but also has a sound which contends with much more brutal forms of metal. Their incendiary, concussive sound is toned down a bit with melody. I would say that this album is essential for any fans of classic obscure traditional metal. And those who do not like Speed metal may like this band for it's fiery and skull shattering sound. A superb album !

Ignitor - The Golden Age of Black Magic (2020)

This album is a mix between power, speed, and a heavy metal. Most songs are mid-tempo power metal riffs though some songs like "Hell Shall Be Your Home" fall much more into the category of Speed metal with fast riffs and solos. The songs are either good or bad, fortunately many are solid songs. The vocals are just the typical power metal high pitch falsettos for the choruses and mid-range for everything else. The guitar work is solid focusing more on the riffs then the leads which is definitely not unusual for power metal. The drumming is solid as well. The bass is audible for the most part which is quite unusual for this genre. Overall "The Golden Age of Black Magic" is mainly a solid affair, the arrangements are very clever and thought-out. I recommend this release to any fan of German Power or Speed Metal, especially if you’re one of those people who prefer no keyboards in their Power Metal.

Satanic Priest - Demo 2020

It doesn't matter what style of music you're talking about, nothing beats a good tune or Demo. For example, some could said most of bands sound "generic" while others could say they're fast. Now certainly in 2021 i say Satanic Priest fkn rules!!They are pretty damn fast and should certainly be considered extreme for this time. As for the comment that some bands are "generic", I'll simply never understand those who feel that way. These guys execute thrash/speed metal very much their own. Stylistically for me, Satanic Priest has similarities to bands like Exciter, early Anthrax, Hallow's Eve, a bit of Nasty Savage, etc. They play a nasty style of thrash Metal which i fkn love. A badass vocal deliveries a punch in the face. Very punked out and delivered with tons of attitude, raspy, spitfire style growl is timeless and inimitable. I couldn't imagine anyone who is a thrash fanatic not having this demo. It’s hard to choose highlights, but "Lust and Alcohol" is probably my favorite. There’s really no particular reason, as all the songs take the same approach, but the riffs and melodies are sick. This kind of stuff should appeal to you if you’re into aggressive speed metal like Exciter or Tank, but keep in mind that this is much more unique and full of its own quirks (oh yeah, and it’s faster too). If you like your music fast fast fast - get this demo NOW!

Hell Priest - Demo 2019

Okay, the vocals are borderline thrash, but this is just about as SPEED METAL as it gets. And it is very good speed metal indeed. This is pretty much a 'fun' demo, though fun here is defined to be smashing skulls and drinking blood at 900 miles an hour. The guitar tone is more classic-metal than anything else, and there are a lot of punching moments too. At times the songs kinda sound the same (a problem for a lot of speed metal bands, really), and then when they slow down a bit do they really get character. Then throw in a very well-constructed solo that is fast and shredding without tempting God to kill a kitten. If you like classic metal with an edge, you'll like this. When all is said and done, this demo doesn't quite sound like anyone else. So I'll simply end with this, if you want relentless speed/thrash with an aggressive rough vocals, with crazy razor sharp fast guitars, and don't mind simplicity, get The hell priest Demo immediately !

Ejaculator - Whore Of Hell (2020)

Muddy production values to create a misted blood-storm of metal that few have been able to execute.  Ejaculator brings violence and set a standard for raw black/thrash metal. I am not a big fan of BM But i respect when a band tries not to imitate and follow their own path. This band bring dark emotions to build a haze of despair, anger and violence that few bands could match. This isn't  not only extreme, but shows musical talents as well if you pay attention to it. The patterns are deadly, powerful and hypnotic enough that they catch your ear anyway. Own this, or suffer the consequences of your own, miserable, tasteless purgatory.

Shitangel - Demo XXX (2020)

This demo is a very simple, yet effective style of black/death metal. A decent production and mix, with some "primitive" songs, similar to early Bathory, hellhammer musicwise. There are some mixed influences, but you can hear that these guys are really into their music. There are no highlights or stand out elements here, like i said before , it's effective, just a very good old school metal with some ultra evil lyrics. These maniacs play good metal with lots of attitude. Looking for some good old school raw stuff in the Bathory/hellhammer vein? Get this demo!

Deathstorm - For Dread Shall Reign (2020)

The songs here are furious, fast and catchy with the occasional mellow intros topped by face melting guitar work, the way real thrash should be.  Production is good. Hopefully this is only a preview of what is to come from these thrashers, it’s not the most original album but I dare say this is just as good if not better then the originals. This would be a crime for any fan of Kreator, Destruction, etc. to miss out on.

Toxik Death - Sepulchral Demons (2020)

Stalking the wild lands of Norway. Toxik Death has been steadily pumping out a few releases, becoming the paradigm of dirty and grimy metal. The band’s brand of heavy metal focuses on dirty speed metal and thrashing belligerence, with blackened edges all around, giving more than a few nods to the likes of Whiplash, Motörhead and Venom. Bringing a healthy mix of fast paced thrashers, furious yet melodic riffing to the catchy as hell, brutally mid-paced “Sepulchral Demons”, Toxik Death’s sound is energetic, dirty and a freaking blast to listen to. Despite the rather traditional sound that this band seems rooted in. The album is a barrel full of fun with its raging speed metal riffs and proto-black metal attitude, but it’s not without fault. The production is certainly is fairly rough, even for the style. Toxik Death’s sound is rooted in the grime and filth of the European scene, so you really shouldn’t expect a pristine and polished production, but cutting through the fog a bit could possibly work wonders. Fans of sleazy, grimy metal will no doubt find a new favorite in Toxik Death. Full of solid throwback riffing and influences full worn on sleeves, Sepulchral Demons isn’t anything groundbreaking, but hot damn does this rock pretty hard. This crew have struck gold and will no doubt become forerunners of one of the hardest hitting scenes in metal. From the cold lands they came. They're on fire at this point: when it comes to raging, speeding, filthy metal, this band are in a league of their own !!

Bastard Priest - Vengeance (2020)

These maniacs from Sweden show a sense of brutality and groove. Lots of influences by the legendary Nihilist. Listen to it , so you can understand why this is so fkn awesome. It is fucking heavy with the guitars so low tuned and at the same time, very groovy. The vocals are incredible; they are directly from hell in their inhuman growls. The drums are quite essential but extremely catchy and thrash inspired in their continue up tempo. “March into obliteration ” is my favourite one in this album…incredible in the up tempo, stop and go and fast blast beats. The guitars are so crunchy in their down tuned style and the vocals even more obscure. The musicians create rotten melodies, violent and catchy at the same time; every song has its well cast riff that helps you recognize it among the other ones. Unbelievable speed and brutality . The solos are obscure and even better with the chainsaw guitars in the first place. I cannot say that I recommend this to any Swedish death metal fan out there because you should know it very well for its importance and beauty. Neverending violence for my ears!!

Fallen Angel- All Salvation Lost (2020)

This is a reissue of the demos from 2014 and 2019. Ferocious, vicious sound. I think their most thrash and death metal influences of this band were brutalized by a high dose of early black/death metal to create this savage assault of rotting death metal. Vocals are on the borderline between screams and suffered growls, the drumming is fast as hell with brutal, primordial up tempo parts. This is total madness: fast as hell in barbaric style while the guitar parts are always easy but catchy and total impact. The solos are quite messy and very raw with tremolos and whistles and i fkn dig it. This release isn’t technical, isn’t melodic but it’s just fast, savage and brutal as fuck and a truly heavy influence for the future generation of young deathsters. A fist in the stomach !!

Old Coven - The Awake Of Ascendant Darkeness (2020)

Very few bands can present a sound so closely interconnecting death, thrash and black metal. But Old Coven does a fkn brilliant job bonding these styles. They sound like a raging beast with an arsenal of influences comparable to legendary bands such as Bathory, Messiah, Sodom, Possessed, and Sarcofago, they offer up some of the most truly twisted and groundbreaking material of this era. A lethal dose of complex riffing and wild shred fests. It's about as insane of a blackened thrash-oriented album as can be found in the late 80s, savage intensity. If early Messiah, Possessed and Bathory are on your radar, definitely Old Coven can be found at their border. Get your hands on this cassette if you love the extreme forms in metal. This release definitely pushes the boundaries of the aspects of extreme metal and is a very unique album with a very unique sound. Once again, this is not at all for casual death metal listeners or trendy pussies. Only for those who are licensed to feel this extreme way of expression for real. METAL RULES!!!!!!!!

Fatal Sin - The Complete Recordings (2020)

Holy shit, this is amazing.  This is a fantastic compilation of demos from 1989 to 1990. But what really stands out about this release is how fundamentally catchy and well-written these songs were back in the day. Every tune here bursts with energy and enthusiasm, the result of a young band who hadn’t the chance to be Big. Yet they fkn rule !! Pretty much every riff on these tracks are winners, and each track has enough hooks to not only make the songs but fucking addicting. These guys obviously put a lot of time into making these songs as good as they could be, and it shows in every aspect here. This is old-school, catchy thrash metal at its absolute finest. The more primitive playing on these demos (though still pretty damn technical) definitely works in the band’s favor, perfect riffs, raspier vocals, guitar and bass work are top-notch of course, and the production on this reissue is surprisingly good; with its hefty tone and instrument clarity. What else do you really need? A classic !!

This is a cool reissue. demos from 1990-1992'. Remember back in the day demos? Well this Cd really captures the original sound of the band. It's well produced and mastered and everything sounds good. The band's performance on this cannot be denied. The songs on here are, tight Drumming is spot-on, the bass is accurate and audible, and the riffage is true, the vocals are really good.  It's a must-have for fans of the early 90's or old-school death/Thrash metal. And since ThrashBack Records is doing a great job reissuing these gems, you won't have to scour Ebay to hear these beauties for yourself. Betrayed - The Unbeliever (2021)

The mighty Betrayed…another cool thrash metal act from the chilean scene has managed to produce during these past years. The first track follows suit with the intricately woven, fast-paced rifforamas and blazing virtuoso leads, apocalyptic mean vocals. This is the ultimate technical shredfest, brilliant stomping mid-break and memorable chorus, also cavernous atmosphere make this piece a mandatory listen for thrash metal lovers. This album is a vigorous headbanger with pounding interludes. Vocals sound evil and full of hate on this record. The lyrical themes explored on this album deal heavily with political topics such as government and corruption as well as other horror themes like murder and nightmares. Overall a tremendous album.  In conclusion this is metal music for the thinking metal listener or someone looking for technical music filled with ferocity. This album made Betrayed be noticed as a ferocious force in the Southamerican thrash metal scene!
